Bishop to Bless Shrine in NuKen Tomorrow

"At the invitation of Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry F. Hanse, the bishop of Greensburg Roman Catholic Diocese will be in New Kensington tomorrow to bless a shrine.

Msgr. Hanse, pastor of St. Joseph Church, invited the bishop, the Most Rev. William G. Connare, to bless an Our Lady of Fatima Shrine erected on the church grounds in memory of the Rev. Francis J. Hertzog.

Father Hertzog was pastor of St. Joseph from 1911 until his death in 1959.

The shrine blessing ceremony will begin at 4pm with 180 St. Joseph Parochial School pupils and members of the parish junior and senior sodality participating.

The ceremony will get underway with the singing of "Ecce Sacerdos Magnus" --(Behold a Great Priest)--the traditional greeting extended a Catholic bishop as he enters a church for any ceremonial visit.

After addressing the congregation, Bishop Connare will vest for benediction while a hymn is sung in tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Benediction will be followed by a procession of members of the sodality, school girls and altar boys, who will proceed to the shrine on the church grounds.

Bishop Connare will bless the shrine with the assistance of members of the clergy.

Miss Margaret Baxter, St. Joseph Sodality prefect, will place a crown, also blessed by the bishop, on the Lady of Fatima statue.

During the crowning, school children will sing a hymn titled, "Our Lady, Star of Fatima."

The ceremony will conclude with the singing of "Holy God, We Praise Thy Name," a hymn dating back to the crusades."
