St. Vincent de Paul Society

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam, a 20-year old student of Sorbonne University in Paris, France.  The Society has approximately 900,000 members in 113 countries.  Here in the United States, some 12 million persons are helped annually by Vincentians.  Our St. Joseph's group has ten members and we meet every Tuesday night at the Knights of Columbus hall.

The Society's purpose is to provide tangible assistance to those in need on a person-to-person basic, while maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those who are served.  An overall aim is to direct the aid so as to help individuals to reduce/eliminate the causes of their sufferings themselves.  Requests for assistance in all types of matters are usually received through the Parish Center Office and are relayed to Society members for action.

We work through the Westmoreland County Food Bank to distribute boxes of food to our approved list of applicants on the first Saturday of each month.  We also have a food pantry that is stocked by food/money donations from parishioners and other service organizations.

If you would like to volunteer your time for the monthly food bank at the first Saturday of every month from 8:00-11:30am, please contact the Parish Office.
